What is planned for 2014?

This year we are building on what we have already achieved and, by the end of 2014, we hope to have close to another 150,000 native plants in the ground at various sites within the catchment.

One of the science programmes, Options for Lake Opening Sites, is due to complete by the end of March-April. Other investigations expected to complete around this time include Possibilities for an Engineered Lake Level and the Mahinga Kai Bio-health Investigation. These results will be posted once signed-off.

A big achievement for the year will be the launching of the Kaituna Catchment Management Strategy, which was developed in consultation with landowners within the catchment. Expected to be launched before June, this strategy aims to consolidate the community vision for the area and encourages everyone to be on the same page in terms of the long-term plan to improve the health of Te Waihora.
